This is something which has recently turned up in my critique group. We have one writer who seems to like describing the setting in great detail--for many, many pages. In one case, he spent six pages describing the trees, the plants, the path, the river, then finally got to the actual story. :o

So, up for discussion, how much setting is too much? How much is too little? Any special considerations based on gender (asked because we've actually had to add setting details because the men had problems, though the women didn't)?
